DISCUSSION QUESTIONS/TOPICS
- Research volcanism (volcanoes), discuss the different kinds of volcanoes.
- Why might the volcanic ash improve farming?
- Students can make up their own legends of volcanoes, as if they had no knowledge of the science of volcanism (Acts of the gods? Coyote? Punishment?). Stories can be illustrated.
- Discuss how Wupatki came to be the "crossroads" of cultures (its central location).
- Discuss origins of names in the story (Weaver, Long Legs, Little Basket, etc.). Discuss modern names and how they might have originated (Johnson, Smith, Cooper, names in other languages, etc.)
