Weaving Demonstration
Bring in a local weaver with his/her loom for a weaving demonstration.
Make a Loom
Make small, simple looms (8" x 14") with furring strips and finish nails, across tops and sides, less than 1/4" apart. For the warp, tie a piece of yarn in a corner and loop it back and forth around the nails, tying it at the opposite corner. Wind a long piece of yarn over each nail from top to bottom to top, paralleling each last strand. For the weft, thread a needle with yarn and weave it through, tying ends on warp threads. Using different colors, tie all loose ends, particularly when you remove the weaving from the loom.
No time? With a paper cutter make parallel cuts down pieces of colorful construction paper, roughly 1/2" apart, the cuts stopping around an inch from the top and bottom. Cut strips of various colored paper and weave them over and under the cuts.
Take a nature hike and collect feathers, flowers, and other finds. Weave into the yarn or paper weaving.
