More than a dozen works of art illustrate each of the books Race to the Moonrise and Race to the River. Carlson captures all the excitement, drama, and sweeping, Southwest vistas perfectly in Crum's stories of adventure and intrigue.

Nearly one hundred maps, sketches, and archival photographs (combined) give the reader of People of the Red Earth myriad ways to understand and enjoy the author's work on Colorado's American Indian heritage, both ancient and recent. She combines up-to-date scientific research findings with information from historical and ethnographic literature, enhanced by personal knowledge.
